Infromation about the procedure of Ear Surgery
Hereditary or accidental deformities of the ear, may often cause psychic trauma for patients. This can be inherited prominent ears, asymmetrical or side differences, shape differences, or deformity after an accident. Fortunately most of these can be corrected by a simple surgical procedure.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, in case of kids under general anesthesia. Ansthetic injection may cause pain, but this ceases in a few minutes and will become numb. Patients can barely feel that somthing is being done. During the operation surgen and patient can communicate continuosly. The goal is to correct the shape and reduce the angle between the auricle and the head by a hidden incision to correct the auricular cartilage until normal contour and angle achieved. At the end of operation compresses are used.
As the effect of the local anesthesia decrease, patient may feel pain that that can be treated with regular painkillers. Compresse kept for 4 weeks to ensure that the cartilages are fixed in thr right position. After the observation period the patient can go home with a companion. Arranging home care, and comply with the instructions is the patient's responsibility. Patients are being controlled periodically after the operation. Stiches are removed in 14 days.
Rare but possible complications
Any surgical procedure may have complications, which can be medical or aesthetic in nature.
Ansthetic injection sometimes may case fading, vomitingor increased heartbeat. Scars usualy heals without any problems however keloid wound sometimes may occur. Blood supply of the ear cartilages are quite inadequate, threfore the highest risk is the death of cartilageos tissues.
In spite of all our efforts, sometimes minor differences in shape or size may occur.
Final result can be expected in a few weeks. . Stiches are removed in 4 weeks, until that using elastic band is recomemended. After the surgery regular painkillers may be taken to avoid discomfort and pain.
